Our teaching staff put their heads together to come up with a great variety of classes for you. There is something for everyone, beginner to advanced. Some classes are back by popular demand and others are new, exciting and challenging. Come in and see the new quilt samples hanging and as always, a piece of chocolate is waiting for you.

BEGINNING QUILTMAKING    
Sharon Wilhelm 6 two hour sessions $60 Beginner
This class will build a great foundation for quilting. In every class we will play with color. We will start with the fundamentals: hand piecing, accurate rotary cutting, machine piecing, appliqué, how to set the blocks in rows, attaching borders, batting and binding. This quilt will be hand quilted. There will be homework. 37” x 51” wall hanging.

This is a skills builder series of lessons and really great for anyone who wants to gain more confidence in their skills. You will be using your sewing machine, learning color study, fusible appliqué, appli-quilting, setting blocks on point, piping, scalloped borders, and machine quilting borders. AUTUMN BRAID

This stunning quilt looks hard, but it’s really easy and fun to make. Pick a theme fabric with lots of colors for the background, then pick braid colors to match. It looks great in fall colors, batiks, shabby chic florals, and soft spring colors. It makes a twin (72 x 80) or queen (88x 80).

BEGINNING EMBROIDERY-BLOOMING BASKET IN REDWORK

Embroidery has always been a deservedly popular hobby. It stimulates the imagination and, at the same time, provides an island of calm in the midst of a hustle/bustle world. Let’s create this blooming basket mini quilt (15” x15”) using 16 stitches.

This colorful Blooming Basket has 16 stitches but we will focus on “Thread Play” using a beautiful floss palette which can be purchased separately or just pull floss from your collection using the pattern color suggestions.

Here’s a wonderful quilt to celebrate all of those wonderful dogs that enrich our lives each and every day! This is one of those “Crazy” stacked Buggy Barn quilts we love to make. Make it in Buggy-Barn-type fabrics or think “out of the box” and use brights or batiks. Join us for the fun.

These baby blocks are just the thing for that gift for the new baby. They can be done with crayons and embroidery, or with traditional applique methods. We will be teaching fusible applique technique.

CATHEDRAL WINDOWS
   
 Eliane Bailey  One 4 hour session  $25 Intermediate

One of the most intriguing of all patchwork designs, Cathedral Windows was a popular technique during Victorian times. Made with no batting and no quilting, the three-dimensional effect is achieved by folding squares of fabric and inserting small squares of contrasting fabrics.

Learn simple paper piecing techniques. We will discuss methods, products, and make a Christmas ornament to take home. It’s never too early to start making Christmas gifts.

4-PATCH STACK

You can’t get any easier than a 4-patch! Add stack-and-whack to a 4-patch and you have this easy and fun 4-Patch Stack quilt! It’s a fun technique, and you’ll be able to get most of this quilt done in this all day class. Supply List for the class includes tips to help you select fabric for the quilt.

HAND QUILTING: THAT PERFECT STITCH

While quilting, you will gain an understanding of the basics of the stitch as well as proper use of tools. Learning the mechanics of the hand will help you determine your stitch length per inch. Each student will receive individual attention.

MACHINE QUILTING

So many tops and so little time! Machine quilting can be quicker than hand quilting and still beautiful. Battings and basting as well as straight line and free motion are taught. We will work on a muslin sandwiched sample and then quilt a little Pre-Printed Holiday Wreath Mini-Whole Cloth quilt. You must be user friendly with your machine and a walking foot and darning foot are required.

Join us and have fun making this dramatic, colorful paper-pieced quilt. It’s easy enough for a first time paper-piecer, but challenging enough to keep an experienced paper-piecer interested. Make the suns all in one color, in all different colors, or as show in five different colors…it’s up to you.

ONE BLOCK WONDER

Use this combination stack-and-whack/kaleidoscope technique to make a quilt out of one fabric and one type of block. Depending on the fabric you use, the quilt can turn out to be dramatic or subtle, but it will always be surprise. The size of the quilt will depend on the size of the repeats in the fabric. Class Supply List included tips to help you choose fabrics for a One-Block Wonder.

SHARON’S APPLIQUE ACADEMY-PART 1

This is the first of a four part Applique Academy which will be offered over the course of the next 12 months. The project is “The Flowers of Summer,” a 75” x 75” quilt made up of four large blocks. A nine patch border provides the straight line contrast to the flowing lines of the appliques and allows the flowers to “grow” outside their blocks. Each class will teach 3-4 different appliqués methods, introduce numerous tools and offer valuable tips and tricks. (Students who elect to take only one class of the academy will work on one of the 20’ x 20” blocks to use as a beautiful wall hanging.)

For part 1, the poppy block, these techniques will be taught: tiny stems, 1/8 “ bias bar stems, appliqués off the block, basted units, freezer paper on top, reversible and basic appliqué, and the “how to” of various shapes.

The Flowers of Summer-Lily, by Shela Wintle offers us another opportunity to advance in the fine art of appliqué. Students will learn two more ways to make stems and four more ways to appliqué: back basting, Broderie Perse, perfect circles and dimensional appliqué.

This block of the month is packed with techniques to improve your skills. There are fours setting to choose from in this pattern using the 4” blocks. We are offering setting #2. (Pattern also offers 12” block sizes)

MY CATS ARE STARS (68“ x 84”) by Rasta Marie Creations

Each month you will receive instructions to make a cat block. You will also be making pinwheels along the way for your border so that when you reach the last month, you’ll be ready to sew the whole thing together. In month 9, paw cornerstones begin and mice sashing is added in months 10-12. Each month the star gets a little more complicated than the previous month, so you’ll be improving your piecing skills along the way. Enjoy the cats and stars!

CLASS POLICIES
  • Full class fee is required to hold your place in class.

  • Minimum number of students is three. Beginning and intermediated quilting minimum is six. Please sign up as early as possible. Space is limited.

  • Lunch: You will need to bring a sack lunch if your class covers a lunch hour.

  • Supply list will be given upon registration

  • Refunds will be made until 7 days prior to class date.

  • Please NO CHILDREN in classes

  • Please turn off your cell phones while in class as a courtesy to our teachers and other students.

  • You may sign up for classes over the phone. We accept all major credit cards.
